Keeping our community informed and connected

The Community Engagement Team is dedicated to nurturing a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community. We strive to create an environment where every member feels valued, heard, and connected. Through active engagement and collaboration, we aim to build a stronger, more unified Millbrook First Nation.

Community Engagement

Millbrook First Nation recognizes that active and consistent community engagement is essential to effective governance and long-term community development.  We are committed to maintaining strong relationships, encouraging meaningful participation, and ensuring that the perspectives of all members are incorporated into the decision-making process.  

Guided by community values and Mi’kmaq ways of knowing. Our engagement practices are grounded in respect, unity and the belief that everyone has a voice worth sharing. We aim to empower our members and support the collective well-being of Millbrook First Nation. 

Ways We Engage

  1. Community Outreach: We conduct regular outreach initiatives to connect with community members, gather feedback, and understand their needs and concerns. This includes surveys, and meetings.  

  2. Community Outreach: We stay connected to our members through regular and respectful outreach. This includes online and in-person surveys, community events, committee meetings, Community feast and dedicated public engagement sessions. These activities are designed to be welcoming, informative, and two-way means of communication. Offering space for community members to share their ideas, concerns and visions in ways comfortable and culturally grounded. 

  3. Programs and Activities: We organize a variety of programs and activities designed to engage members of all ages. These include cultural events, educational workshops, recreational activities, and social gatherings that promote unity and celebrate our heritage.  

  4. Partnerships and Collaboration: We work closely with other departments, local organizations, and external partners to create opportunities for collaboration. By building strong partnerships, we enhance our capacity to serve the community effectively. 

  5.  Communication and Feedback: We maintain open lines of communication to ensure that community members can easily share their ideas, concerns, and feedback. This helps us stay responsive and adapt our initiatives to better meet the community’s needs.  

Youth and Elders Engagement

We place a special focus on both our Youth and Elders. Recognizing their unique roles, voices, and contributions within the community. By offering programs and activities that support their development, leadership, and connection to their cultural roots. We aim to create space for Youth to grow and for Elders to guide.
