Our Elders

Our Elders are respected members of the Millbrook First Nations who are recognized for their wisdom, knowledge and life experience. Elders hold a significant role in preserving and sharing our cultural heritage, traditions, and spiritual beliefs.

Elders support our people and community through:

  • Offering wisdom and guidance — Elders are keepers of traditional knowledge and use this knowledge to educate and offer advice to community members.

  • Cultural and spiritual leadership — Elders are vital to our ceremonies, rituals and cultural events. They are often called upon to bring prayers, remarks or teachings.

  • Education and mentorship — As knowledge keepers, Elders share stories, traditions, skills training and language with the younger generations to preserve culture and build pride in our Indigenous ancestry.

  • Community leadership — Because our Elders are respected members of our community, the Chief and Council often seek their input and participate in conflict resolution and mediation between Members.
